I find wheelhouse Pizza to be an amazing place to meet new friends and acquaintances. Because thin crust pizza is not something you find regularly it is a great establishment to go as their pizzas are made to order rolled out as soon as they receive it so the dough is extremely fresh. Not only do they have a lot to offer during the winter the summer months bring tons of activity. It's a great meeting place for cyclist who wanted to take the trail anywhere around Ankeny. Everyone is always so friendly and happy there

Good thin crust pizza!

Ordered a grinder and the bread was way over cooked. So crispy it flaked everywhere. Mentioned it to server. She didn’t care.

Food is good. Pizza is really good. Owner is personable and came out of kitchen to see if folks were happy. Service is johnny-on-the-spot to make sure you have everything you want. Patrons are good. Price is as good as anything you'll find in Ankeny. I will definitely come back.

With all the positive reviews, I can only guess that they come from the regulars (The alcoholics that swell drinks from noon till night and drive home drunk) and have been paid off. The owner tries hard to give a good customer experience but he sells an inferior product. Seriously, you're better off eating a frozen Red Baron pizza than eating a Wheelhouse pizza. I ordered a thin medium cheese pizza. I got cardboard that cost $10.00. I peeled the thin layer of cheese off half the pizza and added it to the other half. I'm not kidding when I say there was no sauce under the cheese! The owner even asked If I wanted a box. He couldn't even see what a horrible product he sells. This is the third time at Wheelhouse and will be my last.

Stopped in on 5/2/15 during the afternoon with my family and had a great experience. Our waitress/bartender had a great attitude and made us feel like we were regulars. Pizza and appetizers were great and served quickly. We will not hesitate to go back again.

Awesome pizza, always crispy with great crust. Have had the standard favorites to some some pretty impressive specialty ones and all are fantastic. Make sure to not pass Wheelhouse up!

Tried the taco pizza, beef and chicken. Well worth the small wait we experienced. Staff was real cool about communicating what was happening with our meal. Will certainly return! High five guys!

I have no idea why this place has such good reviews. I strongly do not recommend eating here. The booths, one of which we were seated, has zero lighting and you are eating in the dark. The wait staff was more concerned with keeping up appearances with the locals then waiting the tables. The pizza was basically a cardboard crust with very little sauce. Whatever made this place a local go-to has disappeared and been replaced by disappointment.

Pizza is great! Love their potato skins. But ask for the Zack’s Margarita. You won’t be disappointed

Just stopped in. Nobody would serve us. Staff was nice, but ignored us. We left. It was frustrating because my family was excited to try the pizza.

Homemade this crust pizza is spot on. They have some very interesting speciality pizzas combinations. We got The Gladiator with sausage, banana peppers, Canadian bacon and pepperoni. Sauerkraut is optional, I highly recommend it. Then you get crushed jalapeno chips too to it if. The flavor combination is stellar! Definitely a hidden gem in Ankeny.

Food was served uncut and cold due to sitting and waiting for our server to bring to us, twice. We ordered two drinks and when she brought them to me, I wanted two large pizzas as well but she walked away while I was talking.Server spent her whole time talking to the regulars. Waited 15 mins just to place our pizza order and had to walk up to bar while she was on her cellular device. Went here to celebrate my France's 21st birthday. Definitely need more servers and the one tonight has an attitude that needs supportive behaviour.

Waiter was super nice. Pizza is ok. We weighted a long time for food but there was an issue in the kitchen.

This is probably the best pizza in Ankeny. We had the Egg Roll and Gladiator (without sauerkraut) and they were both excellent. I would say it feels more like a bar than a restaurant, but there were some people with kids there. It's a small place but a good atmosphere.

Loved it! The pizza was good, service was friendly, and there was a nice local craft beer selection. The owner even checked to be sure we liked our choices. We had a half and half of supreme and egg roll pizzas, house made. We're from out of town, and the Wheelhouse was recommended by a local. We would definitely eat here again.

Great place to eat and drink. If u remotely like the brick oven taste to food, you'll love this place. Great staff!

Walked into this place on a whim. It was sort of late, but the owner still made us a pizza (which was fantastic!) The owner is very friendly, the atmosphere is very relaxed, the service was outstanding, and the establishment is very clean. The liquor selection was better than most of the bars I have been to in Des Moines! I will definitely come back for some Egg Roll Pizza and recommend this place to all my friends and family!

Loved it! Great pizza and better than average craft beer selections. We had the Mad Hawaiian and Taco pizza. Medium was plenty for two and was delicious! I'd definitely go back back for the low key vibe, great food and beer selections!

I pulled into the parking lot on Saturday night at 9:47pm. Only 30 minutes after the Iowa, Iowa state game was over. There was one person plus bartender in the bar. I literally watched the bartender run around the bar and grab her keys. I then watched her run to the doors and lock them. I then called the bar just to let them know that the 3 of us were planning on spending some money. No answer on the phone either. Chandler either needs to hire people who are willing to work or sell this place to someone who will run it properly. Needless to say I will never attempt to come back. I was a bartender for 19 years. Service is a top priority!

Stopped by while traveling through town on Christmas Day. Couldn't be more impressed by the friendliness of staff (owners?). A+ service, fun vibe. Great way to end Christmas Day! Thank you!!!

Service is very slow. Appeared one cook and one waitress. After a good 45 minutes and no food, went home and made Gourmet Totinos Pizza Rolls in the microwave. Server missed out on a $10 tip. party of 2.. easy peazy table.

Service was great beer was cold BUT the pizza had barely any toppings. barely any cheese or sauce. And very little of other toppings.

Owner is super nice and there are fun things on the menu... But my takeout pizzas have had some super burnt crust on too many occasions.

2nd time giving it a shot and once again they're supremely understaffed. 1 hour wait for a pizza?! I mean being busy is good but based on our first attempt being similar and the cook (Howie is apparently his name) taking 7 smoke breaks from the time we arrived until getting our pizza and then it came out wrong (wrong size) to this evening where there's only 2 servers and one cook? Seems that management needs to staff better. We may consider a 3rd attempt in the future if the parking lot is empty so we can hopefully get a pie without a ridiculous wait. The only time a wait like that is acceptable is formal dining not a pizza joint. However I will give credit that both servers we have encountered have been fantastic on both attempts. (1. 1st time was the very skinny blonde lady) (2nd. Was again another blonde lady but much younger wearing a pearl jam shirt) both of these girls deserve credit but managment is clearly lacking.

Best pizza in Ankeny! The staff is always friendly and the food is amazing. The atmosphere is fun- we always feel welcome and like family.

The staff is phenomenal and attentive. No complaints about the service. However, there is not enough sauce on the pizzas. They didn't have the meat for the gyro pizza we wanted. And sausage is a really stupid topping for an Egg Roll Pizza.

Egg roll pizza = pure happiness!
